Agrawal was born in India in 1984 and immigrated to the US like Microsoft Chairman Satya Nadella and Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

Before being chosen by Dorsey as CEO of Twitter, Agrawal was not a famous name, even among employees of this social network.

Parag Agrawal.

Agrawal has expertise in machine learning and AI, joined Twitter in October 2011 and after only a short time, he was selected as an outstanding engineer of the company.

Agrawal is the fourth person to hold Twitter’s highest executive power, after Dorsey (2006-2008, 2015-2021), Evan Williams (2008-2010) and Dick Costolo (2010-2015).

During his time as CTO, one of Agrawal’s major projects was overseeing Bluesky – a decentralized platform first announced in December 2019.

Bluesky’s goal is to `shape an open and decentralized standard for social media networks`.

Bluesky is currently growing quietly, but has started to gain attention in the past few months.

Agrawal’s ambition for a decentralized social network is also expressed through another project.

In addition, Agrawal is also at the forefront of internal technology innovation efforts.

Instead of being confined to the Twitter server, he cooperates with third-party cloud partners such as Google Cloud to process data, or plans to move the timeline feature to Amazon Web Services hosting service in 2023.

When he becomes CEO, Agrawal will face one of Twitter’s big challenges: content moderation.

In a 2020 interview with MIT Technology Review, Agrawal said Twitter’s role is to build a healthy place that allows people to share whatever they want.

`Identifying misinformation is really, really difficult,` Agrawal admitted.
