Hoai An (Hanoi) plans to go to Phu Quoc (Kien Giang) with his family for the April 30 holiday.

`My family of 3 has spent more than 20 million dong in travel money. Perhaps, a trip to Sa Pa (Lao Cai) or Hoa Binh would be more reasonable,` she said.

Linh Nhi’s group of friends (HCMC) is also wondering whether to go to Da Nang or Thailand.

According to a survey by VnExpress, airfare prices for the April 30 holiday are 170% to 300% higher than normal depending on the route.

Afternoons from Ho Chi Minh City to `hot` destinations such as Da Nang, Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), Phu Quoc or Da Lat recorded an increase of 95% to 120% compared to normal days.

Vietravel Airlines representative shared that airfare prices to tourist cities such as Da Nang, Phu Quoc, and Nha Trang are `increasing day by day`.

`This year, tourist destinations are more spread out. Phu Quoc is still the place where most people go, but guests also tend to choose destinations close (to Hanoi) such as Sa Pa (Lao Cai), Moc Chau (Lao Cai) and Moc Chau (Lao Cai).

Many hotels remove surcharges on April 30 and May 1 to attract customers.

High airfare prices are one of the reasons why many tourists change their itinerary or still have not decided where to go on their 5-day vacation (from April 29 to May 3).

Data from travel platform Mustgo, a partner of 2,000 hotels across the country, shows hotel room capacity at destinations that require air travel such as Phu Quoc, Nha Trang or Da Nang during the 30/30 holiday.

Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Thao, Sales Director of Mustgo Travel Company, said that most of the company’s hotel partners have simultaneously eliminated the holiday surcharge (about 20%).

`It is the high airfare prices that are making tourists hesitant to travel,` Ms. Thao said.

However, the current numbers may not completely accurately reflect the trends of tourists on April 30 because many people will make decisions later.

Director of Top One Travel, Hoang Tuyet, commented that whether traveling on your own or on a tour, airfare still accounts for the majority of trip costs.

Experience from long-time travelers shows that airfare prices can still decrease daily, due to many cases of ticket cancellations or airlines increasing flights, but waiting at the last minute will be very risky.
