Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council approved the policy of merging districts and wards

The resolution was passed at the 21st session (thematic session) of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council, term X, held on the afternoon of October 12.

Previously, in the discussion on the proposal to arrange administrative units in the area, Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, former Chairwoman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council, said that merging the 3 eastern districts is a major policy cherished by the city.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam spoke at the meeting, October 12 afternoon.

`This model will create conditions for the city to develop. The problem needs to be how to implement it in a practical manner, meeting the set goals,` Ms. Tam said and said that the merger must create internal resources to succeed.

Ms. Tam also said that through the meetings, voters paid attention to the issue of organizational structure and operating mechanism of the newly developed breakthrough city.

`The Department of Home Affairs must advise the City People’s Committee so that people can convert documents quickly, without hassle and harassment,` Ms. Tam said.

According to Ms. Tam, there are also many different opinions about the name of the new city.

Ms. To Thi Bich Chau, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Ho Chi Minh City, said that this agency has organized a review of the arrangement project.

Previously, the People’s Councils of Districts 2, 9 and Thu Duc also approved the policy of merging the 3 districts into new administrative units.

Reporting to the City People’s Council, Standing Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem said that the concerns raised by the delegates were evaluated by the People’s Committee and carefully prepared when developing the project.

After being approved by the City People’s Council, the City People’s Committee will complete the project and submit it to the Ministry of Home Affairs, so that this ministry and the Ministry of Justice will evaluate.

Districts 2, 9 and Thu Duc used to be an administrative unit called Thu Duc district.

According to the proposal presented to the City People’s Council by Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem, at the district level, the three eastern districts of the city, namely 2, 9 and Thu Duc, will be merged into a new administrative unit temporarily called Thu Duc City.

At the ward and commune level, there are 19 wards in districts 2, 3, 4, 5, 10 and Phu Nhuan that must be arranged.
