The US Navy last week simultaneously deployed three aircraft carriers to participate in training and exercises in key areas such as the East Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.

The USS Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier strike group on August 31 practiced with the 4th Escort Task Group of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) in the East Sea.

Military expert Alex Lockie said that the exercise is part of the `free and open Indo-Pacific` strategy, to prevent China’s ambition to monopolize the East Sea through militarization.

Through the exercise, the US seems to want to send a message that it will not be pushed out of the East Sea, despite pressure from its opponents.

China is trying to find allies in the region, while the US counters its hegemonic ambitions by strengthening relations with Australia, Japan and India to form the `Quad` to conduct

On the military front, the US Navy has also organized joint combat training on an aircraft carrier for the first time between F-35C stealth fighters and F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighters.

`The F-35C fighter is an ideal weapon to destroy military outposts on the artificial islands China illegally built in the East Sea,` Lockie said.

Halfway around the world from the East Sea, the aircraft carriers USS Abraham Lincoln and USS Harry S. Truman also conducted joint exercises in the Atlantic Ocean with the appearance of the F-35C squadron.

The exercise was conducted after the US Navy re-established the Second Fleet to deal with Russia, showing that Washington wants to increase its influence in waters near the Atlantic Ocean.

The simultaneous deployment of three aircraft carriers to exercise in two strategic waters shows that the US Navy has begun to change its aircraft carrier deployment strategy to increase its readiness for potential conflicts with foreign countries.

This strategy was revealed by US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis in April, when he said that aircraft carriers need to be deployed more quickly and not according to predetermined plans, in order to maintain the advantage of secrecy and surprise.

Previously, when deploying any of the 11 aircraft carriers in service, the US Navy publicized their schedules, operating or anchoring locations many months in advance.

The National Security Strategy under the administration of US President Donald Trump has changed its approach, from focusing on terrorist groups to comprehensive competition with world powers such as Russia and China.

Russia currently continuously deploys warships to the Mediterranean, where it was rarely present before the military intervention campaign in Syria in 2015. China also regularly challenges US warships and aircraft in the East Sea.

`We are the strongest navy in the world and will not accept changes to the status quo at sea, even if it means engaging in a complex and competitive environment,` said Rear Admiral John Wade, commander of the ship group.
