On May 10, a representative of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Public Security said that in the past 4 months, police across the country have discovered and handled dozens of groups of administrators of Facebook fanpages.

Most recently, at the end of April, the Cyber Security Department coordinated with Ha Nam Provincial Police to prosecute and temporarily detain Tran Van Lam, 23 years old, residing in Ha Nam province for fraudulent appropriation of property, according to Article 174 of the Ministry.

According to the investigation, since September 2020, Lam established a Facebook fan page `Children’s Support`, posting nearly 250 articles calling on the online community to help patients in difficult circumstances, mainly sick children.

Lam also created 7 more Facebook fan pages for the same purpose, including: `Children’s Support Fund`, `Vietnamese Children’s Support Fund`, `Buddha in the heart`, `Share love Connect love`

With the same trick, the `Sharing for the poor` fanpage management group in Lam Dong also lured more than 1,000 benefactors into transferring money from 50,000 to 500,000 VND to support to appropriate more than 600 million VND.

This group was founded by Dao Ba Loc, 27 years old in Lam Dong and two people, posting information about families in difficult and sick circumstances to call for help.

Some cases also use articles about difficult situations that have been posted to refer to Facebook fanpages, then `insert` their charity bank account numbers into them.

When posted, tens of thousands of people were interested in following and sending money to support.

`The amount of money appropriated by the groups is up to tens of billions of dong. This is a criminal tactic that is very condemnable and people need to increase vigilance,` said a representative of the Department of Cyber Security and Crime Prevention using technology.

According to the authorities, to avoid bad guys taking advantage of trust for personal gain, fraud, and appropriation of property through calling for charity, philanthropists should choose charity funds and programs run by the State,
