A survey conducted by Bloomberg with experts shows that the prospects of export-dependent markets will suffer a lot in the near future, due to slowing global economic growth and high domestic protectionist pressure.

“With policies that hinder freer trade and are less sympathetic to emerging globalization, the export outlook for Asian countries in 2017 is uncertain,” said Khoon Goh, head of

The Philippines is expected to be the strongest growing economy in Asia in 2017, thanks to the solid foundation created in recent years.

Vietnam, a low-cost producer, is one of the few economies in Asia still growing in exports.

Indonesia, the country with the largest population in Southeast Asia, is expected to benefit from a recovery in commodity prices after the country’s mineral and gas companies have suffered in recent years.

Malaysia’s economic growth has decelerated this year due to weaker exports and slower government spending.

Thailand’s exports of high value-added products such as cars to the US may be affected by Donald Trump’s protectionist policies.

Thailand also falls into a similar situation when the majority of goods exported to the US are products with higher added value than Vietnam, for example cars.

Finally, Singapore is predicted to have the lowest growth in the region after its economy has clearly declined since the third quarter of 2016.
