Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Dinh Thien, Director of the Clinical Trial Center, Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology (NIHE), said on June 29 that phase one of the Covivac vaccine clinical trial has not ended.

After the 6th visit, the team collected basic data to analyze the safety of the vaccine.

Covivac is a Covid-19 vaccine researched and developed by the Institute of Vaccines and Medical Biologicals (Ivac).

A researcher prepares the Covivac vaccine at Ivac’s laboratory.

Previously, the research team sent serum samples from volunteers to a laboratory in Canada for assessment of immunogenicity, but there are currently no results.

Associate Professor Thien said the vaccine testing plan has been adjusted to better suit the actual situation.

`We do not yet know whether the volunteer was vaccinated with vaccine or placebo, and how effective Covivac is at protecting. Meanwhile, volunteers also need to go to work and ensure their personal lives, they need to be protected from

If volunteers receive another Covid-19 vaccine, the study data on day 197 and day 365 may no longer be meaningful.

It is expected that the team will analyze safety results on July 9, and have immunogenicity results on July 19.

Dr. Duong Huu Thai, Director of Ivac, said that field activities on vaccine clinical research ended at the end of May. The results of thorough evaluation in vaccine clinical trials are an important convincing factor.
